7 Ways To Get Your Kitchen Ready For Thanksgiving

If you like holiday cooking then you are probably looking forward to Thanksgiving. It’s coming fast and that means you need to get your kitchen ready for a big holiday cooking fest. The earlier you prepare, the better.

Your kitchen might be a mess now, but after these seven tips, you’ll be ready and prepared. This will help not just for Thanksgiving but, for any holiday cooking.

1. Finalise your menu.

Don’t you just hate it when you’ve forgotten that one ingredient that is needed to make your turkey dish perfect? This always seems to happen to a lot of people and usually results in a last minute trip to the grocery store. Save yourself from the agony of panic grocery shopping by finalising your menu early on. Check your kitchen stocks and sort out what you need to buy now, and what you need to buy a day or two before Thanksgiving.

2. Gather your tools.

After doing your grocery shopping, you need to get all the tools that you’ll need ready. Think about each dish and figure out all the items required to make it. Gather them up and organise them in a specific space. You cannot get away with skipping this step because, well, when was the last time you saw your turkey baster?

3. Sharpen your knives.

You cannot do your cooking properly if you’re working with dull knives. On Thanksgiving day, you’re going to want to avoid mishaps because family’s probably going to come over or you have dinner guests to entertain. How would you do that with dull knives that can’t even slice a tomato without mashing it?

4. Clean everything needed for your table set-up.

The next task is to clean everything that you will need in setting up your table. Take out and clean those dusty linens, china, glassware and flatware. You’ve probably kept them for a year in shelves and drawers so linens will need washing and ironing, silverwares will probably need polishing and so on.

5. Clean your fridge and freezer.

You’ll need a lot of room for the ingredients of the food you’ll be cooking as well as leftovers. Clean your fridge and your freezer so you can make room.

6. Prepare for left-overs.

Speaking of left-overs, you should be preparing for these too, not just concerning space but, in terms of storage of as well. Gather all the storage, microwavable containers you have in all sizes. If you don’t have any in your kitchen, it is time to put storage containers on your Thanksgiving grocery list.

7. Clean your countertops, dishwasher, and oven.

Last, but not the least, don’t forget to show some love to your countertops, dishwasher and oven. They need to be clean and in tip-top shape for the all important day!
